VW T3 Syncro TDI Gearbox Rebuild Service with complete GT gears Drivetrain and New VW Reverse Gear. This is our Gold standard VW T3 Syncro gearbox rebuild/repair service and you have a brand new Drivetrain including New GT Custom Gears and Mainshaft and a new VW Reverse gear. So apart from your crown and pinion this is basically a new gearbox that will last. This combination is what I run in my personal  Subaru Heavy Syncro Camper and similar set ups have been run in other Syncro’s with TDI’s  3L Subarus and other high powered engines considered to be gearbox killers.

This package is  €7999 plus vat and shipping.  I can get your gearbox collected and shipped to me for approx. 60-100 euros for nearly anywhere in Europe including the UK please check this into your checkout to get the shipping cost for your address . To secure this service you will be charged a €3000 deposit upon checkout. You will be contacted by us by email to confirm receipt of your deposit and you will receive instructions on how to send your gearbox to us. The balance  plus any authorised costs will then be invoiced to you later, in the final invoice for your rebuild.

TDI engines rev a lot lower than standard IDI Diesels they are also more powerful and produce a lot more torque at lower revs. Due to these factors when installing a TDI engine in your van to get the most from it and also to protect it from future damage it is necessary to get your gearbox rebuilt. Any weaknesses in your gearbox will be exposed by the increase in power and torque. TDI boxes require re-gearing of your gearbox to make the optimum use of your engine, ratios will depend on your tyre size and also the final drive of your gearbox.

Unfortunately 2nd gears from VW are not available anymore so if yours is worn which they often are the only viable replacement is the GT gears Mainshaft Kit which is also available in a range of ratios and so can be better tuned to your set up as opposed to the stock gearing.  They are available in the following ratios
3.778 (9:34) x 2.063 (16:33)
3.778 (9:34) x 1.941 (17:33)
3.667 (9:33) x 1.882 (17:32)
The main shafts are gun drilled to allow for additional oil cooling feeds if required and are manufactured to an amazing standard GT Gears are also stronger than stock gears..
The service involves the replacement of all common wear items and some upgrades to rectify known faults. We rebuild gearboxes to the original VW factory tolerances, to do that it is necessary to replace all the consumable wear items, i.e. bearings, seals, and bushes. We also replace single-use parts such as circlips as per the factory rebuild procedure and replace the synchro rings. All bearing preloads and backlash is measured meticulously, and the box is set up accordingly. Our aim is to restore your box to as close to new as possible or even stronger than new with some upgrades.

If your gearbox is broken it will need this service plus whatever components replacing that are not covered here. If you are wishing to upgrade your box to accommodate and engine conversion you will also need this service plus whatever parts you require.

Until we inspect your box it is very hard to give you a more accurate quote on what it needs. Upon receipt of your service booking fee, we shall supply you with shipping instructions on how to send your gearbox to us. We have currently secured very low prices from our courier company for shipping .

Usually, within two weeks of receiving your gearbox, we shall give you a full professional inspection report and suggestions for your rebuild. These are to suit various budgets from low to high. You will then decide on the option you would like and pay the balance. Your box will be built to your specifications and shipped to you with a build report for your records. All shipping is insured.

The service includes the standard Syncro rebuild service plus TDI essentials kit and the Complete GT Drivetrain and VW Reverse plus new 1/2, 3/4 and 1st/R synchronisers.

Strip charge.
Inspection Report. A full detailed inspection report and detailed gear ratio graphs tailored to your set up, rebuild quotes, and suggestions tailored for you and your van.
Rebuild charge.
Case preparation. including intensive cleaning and re-tapping and cleaning all threads.
Engineering work and fittings, including re-boring and re-sleeving of the case for the 1st & 2nd relay lever, and fitting of the main shaft bearing stop plate to prevent the main shaft from moving forward in the case.

Ultrasonically cleaning of cases and other components.
New Parts. I only use the best quality parts for rebuilds these are constantly tested by me for quality and best price. These parts are sourced from all around the world where possible I use original VW or OEM parts where possible.

It is advised that you replace your gear linkage when getting your gearbox rebuilt, linkage kits are available here
Slots are on a first-come-first-served basis. We generally aim for a turnaround time of a month from receipt of your box but this can sometimes be longer depending on parts availability and the machine shop. Until we inspect your box it is very hard to say but as stated earlier within about 2 weeks of receiving your box. We shall be able to give you a more accurate quote.

€3000 deposit is included in the service cost. The rest of the balance will be invoiced to you from us at Vantopia™.
