GT HD Gears 4th gear Straight Cut 0.78. Yes you read it correctly straight cut 0.78 fourth gear for TDI and other more powerful engine conversions but in a quiet street cut. They are not cheap but quality never is and these are in my opinion the finest gears available. Straight cut gears produce no axial load. This ‘thrust force’ is generated by the sliding contact between the teeth of helical gears. This lateral force is applied to the mainshaft bearing, which causes it to push forward. This greatly restricts the amount of torque that can be applied through the gears before failures on other components occur. So straight-cut gears effectively allow much larger powertrains to be placed in a vehicle without risking the bearings tearing themselves apart, producing a larger safety factor within the transmission itself. Ideal for more powerful engines and also long motorway driving. Straight cut gears are deemed to be noisier than helical cut gears however these come with the quiet street cut design there have been no noise complaints have been had by the manufacturers with this cut. F1 Profile straight cut gears were deemed to be noisy so we do not recommend that cut. We will be testing these soon and comparing them with normal helical cut gears. Please note these are a special order item and so will take usually a week to 10 days to get in stock. Suitable for 094 4speed, 094 5speed and syncro gearboxes.
